Treasury debt buybacks are trending upward
The Treasury purchased $10 billion of its debt on Tuesday, the most since the buyback operation was initiated last year.
Over the last several months, the Treasury buybacks have trended upward, as indicated by the ZeroHedge chart.

This operation effectively improves liquidity in the Treasury market. It may be especially helpful during times of stress, such as those observed in April or over the past two weeks.
Interestingly, the 30-year Treasury yield has fallen by 12 basis points from this week’s high of 5.0%, also driven by weaker-than-expected US economic data.
The U.S. bond market remains in focus.
