This is an amazing chart coming from the most recent In Gold We Trust report. As you can see, the US Dollar has devalued by a whopping 98.9% versus gold since 1971.

At the same time. the British Pound has lost 99.4% while the Euro would have lost 98.8% if existed since then.
By comparison, the Japanese Yen and Swiss Franc have dropped 97.5% and 94.9%, respectively.
Overall, gold prices in US Dollar terms have risen in value over 10 times during this period.
This is a great representation of how fiat currencies lose in value over time. Gold is one of the assets hedging against this so-called currency debasement. Stocks and real estate have also performed pretty well over the long term. Perhaps, Bitcoin is another asset that could mature over time and may be included in that list. By some, it is already included.
The key takeaway is that if one wants to preserve the value of money and beat inflation, they need to invest.
