⚠️CHART OF THE WEEK: US median mortgage payment hit an all-time high
It has never been more expensive to buy a house in the US
The median US mortgage payment rose 4.9% year-over-year in May, to a record $2,882/month.

Over the last 3 years, the median housing payment has risen by ~$580/month, or 25%.
This comes as home prices rose 1.7% year-over-year to $391,725, near the highest ever.
The record housing payment assumes 30-year fixed mortgage rates of ~6.8%.
Meanwhile, there are nearly 500,000 more house sellers than buyers on the market, the most in at least 12 years, likely since the 2006 housing bubble, according to Redfin data.

In other words, there are 33.7% more sellers than buyers, up from 6.5% in 2024.
Price cuts are coming soon to the United States.
